STATEMENT OF FAITH

~ ~ ~ ~ ~
The Bible

We believe that:
All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. [2 Timothy 3:16 (NLT)]

We believe:
that no prophecy in Scripture ever came from the prophet’s own understanding, or from human initiative. No, those prophets were moved by the Holy Spirit, and they spoke from God. [2 Peter 1:20b-21 (NLT)]

"We believe that all Scripture centers [on] the Lord Jesus Christ in His person, work, and in His first and second coming. Therefore, no portion of the Old Testament is properly read or understood until it leads to Christ." 1

"We also believe that all Scripture was designed for our practical instruction. (Luke 24:27, 44; John 5:39; Romans 15:4; 1 Corinthians 10:11; 2 Timothy 3:16)" 1

The Triune Godhead/ The Trinity of God

"We believe there is only one true and living God. He is Creator, Redeemer and Comforter. God is Holy and in Him there is no sin. God is sovereign and is constantly working out His plan in history. God reveals Himself as Father, Son and Holy Spirit." 2

"God the Father. God the Father providentially cares for this universe. He is all-powerful, all-knowing and all-present. God is Father and Truth to all who are His children through faith in Jesus Christ." 2

"God the Son, Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ was the human form of God who came as a gift to mankind. We believe that Jesus was miraculously born of a virgin. He lived a life that was perfect and without sin. Through His death on the cross, He served as the atonement for our sins. He was our substitute: The One Who satisfied justice and salvation. Jesus Christ was raised bodily from the dead. He ascended personally and visibly to be with His Father. He is presently serving as our Mediator with God. Only through faith in Jesus Christ can one receive God’s salvation. Jesus Christ will, one day, return to this earth to bring human history to an end and fully complete God’s purpose for redemption." 2

"God the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is the spirit of God. The Holy Spirit breathed the Holy Scripture to holy men of God. The Holy Spirit exalts Jesus Christ. He convicts persons of sin, righteousness and judgment. He is the only One Who conforms the believers into the likeness of Jesus Christ. He empowers the believer to live the Christ-life, to worship God, to evangelize the world and to serve others. The Holy Spirit makes this possible by indwelling the believer permanently at the point of salvation." 2

Creation and the Origin of Sin

"We believe that man was created directly by and in the image of God. We believe that God created the heavens and the earth, including all life, by direct act. (Genesis 1:1; John 1:3; Colossians 1:16-17)" 1

"Although man was created in the image of God, he fell into sin and is lost. This is true of all men.... (Genesis 1:26-27; John 3:3; Romans 3:10, 23)" 1

Salvation and Atonement For Sin

"We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures as a substitutionary sacrifice and that all who believe on Him are redeemed by His shed blood. We believe in the resurrection of the crucified body of our Lord Jesus Christ and in His ascension into heaven; He is our High Priest and Advocate. (John 1:1-3, 14; 3:1-7; Hebrews 10:4-14; 1 John 2:2)" 1

"We believe that salvation is the gift of God’s grace. It cannot be gained or made more secure by meritorious works, but is freely bestowed upon all who put their faith in the finished work of Jesus Christ at Calvary. All who so trust the Savior are forgiven of their sins and born into the family of God by the regenerating work of the Holy Spirit. (John 1:12; Acts 16:30-33; Romans 10:9-10; Ephesians 1:7; 2:8-9)" 1

The Spiritual Arm of VEFM

As you know, from my last post, our mission for Servingers is being transformed into the spiritual, serving arm of the Veterinary Emergency Funding Mission (http://www.vefm.org/ or http://vefm.blogspot.com/ ). The reason for this is my realization that my time is limited, and if I spread myself too thin, I won't benefit anybody. God has placed in me a strong feeling for the needs of animals, along with a deep understanding of their importance in the lives of people. Because VEFM has been set up to be a secular organization, albeit founded on Christian principles, we want to separate the strictly spiritual portion from day-to-day operations. Servingers will now be the spiritual arm of VEFM. It will be a place where scripture passages and prayer requests can be shared and a place where the spiritual goals of VEFM can be expressed.

"You care for people and animals alike, O Lord."

Time to Focus My Efforts on One Thing

When I started with Servingers, I knew I wanted to help as many people as I could, but I did not know the best way to do this. After a lot of thought and prayer, I began to develop an idea that had been brewing for several years , while I was practicing emergency medicine, as a veterinarian. I had been saddened and frustrated when owners came in with a pet that was in a serious crisis, but could not afford the cost of adequate treatment. The idea that is now coming to fruition is an organization whose mission is to locate funds to help financially strapped owners pay for emergency veterinary care. The organization is called the Veterinary Emergency Funding Mission, Ltd., or VEFM. We have a web site (http://www.vefm.org) and a blog (http://vefm.blogspot.com). Although I may periodically post topics relating to a "servant's heart," a subject that is near and dear to my heart, my practical efforts will be directed toward helping as many people and animals with VEFM as I can.

Quotations on Learning, Knowledge, and Wisdom

3 Yes, if you cry out for discernment,
And lift up your voice for understanding,
4 If you seek her as silver,
And search for her as for hidden treasures;
5 Then you will understand the fear of the LORD,
And find the knowledge of God.
6 For the LORD gives wisdom;
From His mouth come knowledge and understanding;
7 He stores up sound wisdom for the upright;
He is a shield to those who walk uprightly;
8 He guards the paths of justice,
And preserves the way of His saints.
9 Then you will understand righteousness and justice,
Equity and every good path.
-Proverbs 2:3-9 (NKJV)

It is impossible for anyone to begin to learn that which he thinks he already knows.

10 When wisdom enters your heart,
And knowledge is pleasant to your soul,
11 Discretion will preserve you;
Understanding will keep you,
12 To deliver you from the way of evil,
From the man who speaks perverse things,
13 From those who leave the paths of uprightness
To walk in the ways of darkness;

'I'm proof that hope is never lost' - Josh Hamilton

The former record for most home runs in the first round of the Home Run Derby was 24. Josh Hamilton just hit 28, to a crowd of cheering fans in Yankee Stadium. This remarkable baseball player was forced to take 3 years off because he was addicted to heroine and crack cocaine. His return to make baseball history is unbelievable. As the final round is played by Justin Morneau and Josh, read Josh's own words of how he made it back:
